26 miles 385 yards

As I am fast approaching my 40th birthday I have started to review things I had wanted to accomplish in my life. Given my decision to improve my health and fitness, activities that fall in this arena have been in the forefront of my mind. It's time to cross two more items off the bucket list. The weekend prior to my 40th birthday I am going to go skydiving. It is something I have always wanted to do but was unable to most of my adult life due to physical limitations. Now that those barriers have been busted through there is no time like the present to hop in a perfectly good airplane and take the leap!! I have also always wanted to complete a marathon.

This going to require a great deal of training so my target is the Los Angeles Marathon in 2013. I have consulted an excellent source for my journey. The head track and field and cross country coach at the college where I work is none other than Mark Covert, an NCAA, Nike and CCCAA hall of fame member and national cross country champion who finished seventh in the 1972 Olympic trials in the marathon. He also holds the longest current streak for running at nearly 44 years!!! How can I even consider skipping a day of training when he has been running consecutively longer than I have been alive. I will of course track my progress with updates once I begin training in late August-early September. to the next adventure!!
